Custom Saunas - I can Custom design and build your's...

"For years I have enjoyed the heat of a sauna whenever I could find one or have access to one.  About 10 years ago I did research into saunas and how to build them.  I constructed one where I lived at that time, mostly out of recycled materials, but a year later I had to move.  Recently,  I just finished constructing a sauna on our property" (pictures below) ---  Scott Hall

Below are some pictures of the sauna I just finished on our property.  I have yet to install siding on the outside which will have to wait until later...

The outside of the sauna.  It is a six sided sauna.  I installed a flat ceiling inside and insulated to R35 to R40 with Roxul (heat and moisture tolerant) insulation.  The outside will eventually get sided with rough sawn lumber.  I installed a ventilated soffit and cupola on the peak in order to facilitate air flow to keep the structure well ventilated (last longer).

Below is the inside of the sauna.  I built two levels of benches: upper and lower.  The temperature differential in a sauna (due to heat rising) is about 1 degree hotter for every 1 inch higher up in the sauna.  The vent on the wall is a slider which can allow you to have some control of the interior temp while the sauna is fired up.  The wood stove is a SAUNA wood stove purchased from (www.lamppakuuma.com/  ).  It does an excellent job of keeping this sauna as hot as one would ever want.  The inside walls and benches are all CEDAR grown in Kentucky, purchased from an Ohio Amish supplier.

WHY SAUNA?

For thousands of years, cultures around the world have recognized the therapeutic value of heating the body for better health, healing, and greater vitality. The Mayans, Native Americans, the Inuit, and Europeans all developed their own versions of saunas and sweat lodges. Two thousand years ago the ancient Greek physician Paemendides said, "Give me a chance to create fever and I will cure any disease".

"Saunas improve circulation and relieve internal congestion. Heating the body helps destroy bacteria, viruses and tumors. Sweating promotes elimination of toxic chemicals, heavy metals, radiation and other toxins. The skin's ability to eliminate poisons increases. Saunas offer many of the benefits of exercise while requiring much less exertion."

"A low body temperature impairs sweating. This hinders elimination and interferes with tissue regeneration. Supporting sluggish thyroid and adrenal glands helps, but is often not enough. By heating the body, saunas activate and enhance many metabolic processes. This is most beneficial for those with sluggish metabolism."

"The Manual of Sauna Therapy" by Dr. Lawrence D. Wilson MD

"A typical sauna session will cause a brief 1 To 3F increase in body temperature. Fever is the body's defense against bacteria, microbes and consequent infection. This beneficial side effect triggers the production of white blood cells (leukocytes) by your bone marrow and killer T cell by your thymus. The result is Immune system improvement."

"Marvelous things happen beneath the skin in the heat of the sweat bath. The capillaries dilate permitting increased flow of blood to the skin in an attempt to draw heat from the surface and disperse it inside the body. The bather's skin becomes cherry red. The heart is pressed into a faster pace to keep up with the additional demands for blood. Impurities in the liver, kidneys, stomach, muscles, brain, and most other organs are flushed out by the faster flow of juices."
